Level 1 (120V)

Uses a standard household outlet. Adds 3-5 miles of range per hour. Fine for low-mileage drivers but impractical as a primary home charger in car-heavy LA households.

Level 2 (240V)

The home standard. Adds 25-37 miles per hour on a 40-48 amp circuit. Requires a dedicated 240V line from your panel - exactly what we install.

Level 3 / DC Fast (480V+)

Public only. Adds 150-300 miles in 20-30 minutes using direct-current. Not installed at homes - requires industrial utility connections.

Which Level Is Right for You?

Level 2 at home. Overnight charging covers the average 30-mile round trip with margin to spare.

EV Charger Levels FAQ

Can I install a Level 3 charger at home?
No. DC fast chargers require 480V+ utility service and industrial infrastructure. They are only found at public and commercial stations.
Is Level 2 much faster than Level 1?
Yes - about 6 to 8 times faster. Level 2 adds 25-37 miles per hour versus 3-5 for Level 1, turning an overnight charge into a few hours.
Do all EVs use the same Level 2 plug?
Nearly all non-Tesla EVs in North America use the J1772 connector for Level 2. Tesla uses its own connector but includes a J1772 adapter.
How fast is a 48-amp Level 2 charger?
A 48-amp charger delivers about 11 kW, adding roughly 37 miles of range per hour - enough to fully charge most EVs overnight.
What does Level 2 installation require?
A dedicated 240V circuit run from your panel to the charger location, plus a permit and inspection from the city or LADWP as applicable.
